Second Team; Gwynedd League and Cup Matches 2009-2010

Janaury 30,2010.

Benllech RFC  5  Pwllheli RFC    32

This was a tough physical match with the home side determined to make an impact on the visitors.Fortunately for captain Dilwyn Jones he had soul mate Colin Jones available to intervene when matters became heated. Though Pwllheli had several tries disallowed they were worthy winners in what is always a difficult away match. Pwllheli made known their concern as to the occasional overly vigourous play they had to endure.

Pwllheli RFC 14  Bangor RFC 3

Even though Bangor put out their strongest available side Pwllhli were worthy winners of this tight fought contest. Next game is away in Benllech- good luck to the second team in what's sure to be a hard game.

January 22,2010

Tomorrow's home Gwynedd League fixture against Bangor is an important match for Pwllheli.Though they won comfortably in the away fixture Pwllheli have not played for weeks and with fly half Martin unavailable they will need someone to pull the strings. Fortunately Pwllheli have a few  of their veteran players in the squad and this could well tip the balance Pwllheli's way. We are still awaiting details of the latest league table but Pwllheli remain current leaders.

December 5, 2009

31,October,2009
MENAI BRIDGE RFC  10  V  PWLLHELI RFC   5

Pwllheli were less than happy with the supposed intervention of a a Menai Bridge official in the disallowing of a last minute under the posts score by Pwllheli. The players felt aggrieved that the linesman 's flag was at best very, very late. Both teams enjoyed the close contest! Sion Llecyn scored Pwllheli's try and Llyr Peters made his Pwllheli debut.

Pwllheli are on the Island again on November 14 when they meet Llangoed in a rearranged

Gwynedd League fixture.

24 OCtober ,2009.
PWLLHELI RFC 50   . BRO FFESTINIOG RFC 0

Another home win for Pwllheli today, 10 tries to without a reply.Though this ended being a comfortable win Pwllheli were made to struggle early on by a young and enthusiastic Bro side.

Pwllhelii will have to up their game as the play a team in a higher dvision on Saturday when they travel to Menai Bridge for a friendly match.

Though they game was fairly loose throughout Pwllheli's set pieces were again  solid.Prop Aaron Owen was oustanding and got a brace of tries for his efforts.

If Pwllheli are to move up a  level they need to blend their youthful exuberance with more structure .

OCTOBER 3, 2009
PWLLHELI RFC 41  DOLGELLAU RFC 0

Pwllheli played with a strong wind at their backs in the first half.Though their pack managed a stream of possession it was not until injury time in the first period  that they were able to break down the stubborn Dolgellau defence. It took a piece of skill and pace from promising flanker Sam Parry Jones to secure the first score. He stole Dolgellau ball from a lineout and raced twenty five metres to touch down. The excellent touchline conversion came from brother Gwilym Parry Jones.

Pwllheli were fortunate that they had a strong bench to call on.The Jones clan were well represented with no fewer than 12 Jones' on the pitch at one stage.Dolgellau's resistance was gradually whittled down and Pwllheli were able to score a further five unanswered tries. Scores came from Deio Parry  Jones,,Gwilym Parry Jones,Dilwyn Jones ,Lee Oliver and David Jones.Gwilym Jones added the kicks.

This was another solid display by this young but talented team. They have now scored over two hundred points in their last three matches.

There is no second team fixture on Saturday October 10.The scheduled match against Porthmadog has been cancelled as Port have pulled out of the League. Photos of the game.
